TEMPLE OF OLYMPIAN ZEUS
The Temple of Olympian Zeus is a historic monument sitting on the foot of central Athens, right by the emblematic Hadrian Arch. Its construction started during the ruling of Peisistratos, but it was not finished until 131 AD. The temple was dedicated to the Father of Gods, Zeus. Once visiting the site, you will see that only 16 columns from the original temple remain to this day. But at first, they were 104, a number that reveals just how imposing the construction was.
The Temple of Olympian Zeus is located just 500 meters from the site of Acropolis and is easily accessible on foot. You are welcome to stroll down the pedestrianized road of Dionysiou Aeropagitou, a leisurely walk that allows you to take in the distinctive air of Athens city.
